Robert E. Sokolski, Esq. was admitted to practice law in New York State on September 17, 1997.  Immediately after admission, he began his career as a solo practitioner in Manhattan.  His firm shared an office suite with McGuire & Zekaria, P.C., partnered by Colleen F. McGuire, Esq., and Daphna Zekaria, Esq., Mr. Sokolski’s wife.  Mr. Sokolski maintained an ‘of counsel’ relationship with McGuire & Zekaria, P.C., until the retirement of Colleen F. McGuire, Esq. on December 31, 2002, at which point the two firms merged into Sokolski & Zekaria, P.C.  Along with a strong emphasis in tenant law, Mr. Sokolski’s practice has also involved general litigation, federal consumer law, federal sentencing and appeals in numerous areas of law.  He has also lectured before the Brooklyn Bar Association and Legal Services for New York City on housing and consumer law.

Daphna Zekaria, Esq. was admitted to practice law in New York State on July 14, 1997.  Soon after admission, she became a partner in the firm of McGuire & Zekaria, P.C., specializing in the advocacy for, and representation of, residential and commercial tenants.  After the retirement of Colleen F. McGuire, Esq. on December 31, 2002, Ms. Zekaria merged the firm with the firm of her husband, Robert E. Sokolski, Esq., to form Sokolski & Zekaria, P.C.  Since 1997, she has volunteered her services for numerous housing clinics, including Chelsea Coalition on Housing (formed by Jane Wood, a legendary tenant advocate), Eviction Intervention Services (EIS), Housing Conservation Coordinators (HCC) and Village Independent Democrats (VID).  Ms. Zekaria continues to concentrate her practice in the area of tenant representation and, in 2009, was instrumental in the formation of our firm’s sponsorship of the NYC Tenant Rights Housing Clinic (see Announcements).
